The Nidaros Cathedral Girls’ Choir

The Nidaros Cathedral Girls’ Choir consists of 100 young voices aged 8 to 20, based in the cultural and historical heart of Trondheim. Since its founding in 1992, the choir has developed into one of Norway’s leading girls’ choirs, known for artistic excellence and innovation.

Our vision is to develop voices – for music, community, and society – and to create experiences that speak from heart to heart.

Through weekly rehearsals and frequent performances, the choir offers a safe and inspiring environment for both musical and personal growth. Our mission is to enrich the concert and worship life of Nidaros Cathedral, contribute to national events, and enhance the cultural life both in Norway and internationally.

Each year, the choir collaborates with professional artists and ensembles, including the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra and the Trondheim Soloists. Every Christmas, the choir appears in live televised services on NRK, and we regularly take part in official ceremonies and national events. Internationally, the choir has earned acclaim through Grammy-winning recordings, participation in the World Symposium on Choral Music, and collaborations with composers and broadcasters from around the world.

Our core values are development – of singers, the choir, and the choral tradition; inclusion – of one another and of collaborators from diverse backgrounds; and engagement – with the society we live in, with what we create, and with ensuring that everyone in the choir feels at home.

As part of Nidaros Cathedral, we are proud bearers of a thousand-year-old tradition of church music. We are more than just a choir; we nurture the singers of the future and contribute to strengthening the entire vocal music field in the region.

The choir is led by conductor and artistic director Johanne Bjørkhaug.
