Trio Havisham is an award-winning ensemble comprising pianist Zany Denyer, violinist Magdalena Riedl, and cellist Seth Collin. Renowned for their thoughtful music-making, their performances have been described as having “real flair, while never losing that sense of balance” (CAVATINA, 2022).
Having won the Musicians' Company Award at Wigmore Hall (2023), they are now part of the Worshipful Company of Musicians’ five-year Young Artist Program. They have also been selected by the Kirckman Concert Society as Kirckman Artists for the 2024/25 season, after previously being part of the Tunnell Trust’s roster of artists in 2023/24. The trio is also grateful for the support of ChamberStudio UK, who invited them to participate in three residences at the University of Cambridge as part of the Hans Keller Forum (2023/24). They were recently invited to the 2025 IMS Prussia Cove Masterclasses, where they studied in the class of Anthony Marwood and later invited onto the Open Chamber Music Programme. In the Summer of 2025, they were an Ensemble en Résidence at La Roque d’Anthéron International Piano Festival, at the invitation of Trio Wanderer.
The trio has also achieved success in international competitions, winning 2nd prize at the Concours International de Musique de Chambre de Lyon (2023). Previously, they were awarded 1st prize at the CAVATINA Intercollegiate Chamber Music Competition at Wigmore Hall and reached the finals of the Birmingham International Piano Chamber Music Competition (2022). More recently, they were prizewinners at the Schoenfeld International String Competition in Harbin, China (2025) and reached the semi-finals of the 12th International Chamber Music Competition: Franz Schubert and Modern Music (2025) in Graz, Austria.
The trio is grateful to have received numerous opportunities for masterclasses and coachings with esteemed musicians over the past few years, including James Baillieu, Alasdair Beatson, Michael Dussek, Leonard Elschenbroich, Donald Grant (Elias String Quartet), Ralf Gothóni, Richard Ireland, Laura Jellicoe, Matthew Jones, Yair Kless, Robert Levin, John Myerscough (Doric Quartet), Carole Presland, Petr Prause (Talich Quartet), Wu Qian (Sitkovetsky Trio), Hannah Roberts, Gábor Takács-Nagy, the Takács Quartet, Trio Karénine, David Waterman (Endellion Quartet), Jeremy Young, So-Ock Kim, and the Gould Piano Trio.
A particular passion of Trio Havisham lies in exploring the rarely performed trios of Bohuslav Martinů. In 2023, they recorded his 1st Piano Trio, ‘Cinq pièces brèves', for the Abbey Road Institute.
Zany and Seth are currently pursuing advanced studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where the ensemble was awarded the Ivan Sutton Chamber Music Prize, as Artist Diploma and Postgraduate students, respectively. Magdalena is completing a Professional Diploma at the Royal Academy of Music. The ensemble originally formed at the Royal Northern College of Music, where they were awarded the Christopher Rowland Ensemble of the Year Prize. Formed by Ginevra Bassetti (violin), Francesca Giglio (cello), and Greta Maria Lobefaro (piano), the Trio Hèrmes quickly established itself on both the national and international music scenes.
Since its foundation, the Trio has studied the core repertoire under the guidance of the Trio di Parma and Pierpaolo Maurizzi at the “Arrigo Boito” Conservatory in Parma. They continued their artistic development at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, in the Chamber Music class of Maestro Ivan Rabaglia, and at the Walter Stauffer Academy in Cremona with the Quartetto di Cremona. The ensemble was also selected by the MDW University of Vienna to participate in its International Summer Academy (ISA), working with renowned professors including Hatto Beyerle, Avedis Kouyomdjian, Patrick Jüdt, and Johannes Meissl. They were later invited to take part in study sessions and concerts organized by ECMA (European Chamber Music Academy), and also in Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler of Berlin. The Trio has won several competitions, including the European Music Competition “Città di Moncalieri” (2019), the “Premio Crescendo” in Florence (2021), and the “Premio Alberghini” in Bologna. In 2021, the group was selected by Simone Gramaglia to join the network “Le Dimore del Quartetto,” where it was awarded “Ensemble of the Year 2023,” chosen among more than 90 ensembles from around the world. The Trio was also selected by the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena to participate in the project “Giovani Talenti Musicali Italiani nel Mondo,” promoted in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and CIDIM – Italian National Music Committee. Within the same institution, the ensemble received the “Giovanna Maniezzo Prize 2024” for its outstanding artistic qualities, promotional vision, and creative development.
They have performed at major festivals and prestigious concert seasons, including Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, Amici della Musica di Verona, Società Aquilana dei Concerti B. Barattelli, Fondazione Musica Insieme Bologna, GoG Giovine Orchestra Genovese, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Associazione Alessandro Scarlatti in Naples, Unione Musicale di Torino, IUC – Istituzione Universitaria dei Concerti, Marche Concerti, Amici della Musica di Palermo, Società del Quartetto di Milano, Sagra Musicale Umbra, Musikàmera Venezia among others. In 2026, two major tours are scheduled in America and China, alongside ongoing collaborations with Italian concert institutions with whom the ensemble maintains strong artistic relations.
Their debut CD for Brilliant Classics is dedicated to the chamber music of Italian composer Ildebrando Pizzetti. The Trio also collaborates closely with Rai Radio 3, which has named them among the most promising ensembles of their generation, dedicating episodes of the programs “NextGeneration” and “La Stanza della Musica.” This recognition culminated in a live broadcast concert from the Cappella Paolina at the Quirinale.
The Trio is also committed to performing contemporary music, collaborating with composers such as Domenico Turi, Fabio Massimo Capogrosso and Silvia Colasanti. A significant partnership has also been established with the musicologist and critic Guido Barbieri, resulting in interdisciplinary projects: the most notable of which focuses on Ludwig van Beethoven and Francisco Goya, inaugurating an annual series dedicated to the dialogue between Art and Music. The ensemble has created its own original project dedicated to the chamber music of Robert Schumann, structured across multiple concerts and different chamber formations, in collaboration with internationally renowned artists such as members of the Quartetto di Cremona, the Trio di Parma, and leading music communicators. The project debuted in some of Italy’s most important theatres and, due to its wide success with audiences and critics, is planned to expand with future editions dedicated to Beethoven and Schubert.
Since 2025, the Trio’s activities have been supported by Pirastro (Pirastro Young Artist Program) and Steinway & Sons Milano.
