Make sure to set aside Friday night for a bewitching chamber version of Béla Bartók´s dramatic opera Bluebeard´s Castle, performed in Norway´s royal cathedral. The story is based on a French folk tale and tells of Judith who follows the infamous duke Bluebeard into his castle.
Bartók wrote the opera in 1911 for two soloists and large orchestra. In our chamber version, the orchestra is replaced by intense interplay between organ and piano. Nidaros Cathedral´s unique church space, enhanced with lightning and video design, will form an adventourus setting around the drama, a profound encounter with unconscious forces and the battle between light and darkness.
